BANGALORE (MarketWatch) — The New York Stock Exchange is looking to increase its stake in India’s National Stock Exchange and Multi Commodity Exchange once foreign ownership rules are eased, the Press Trust of India reported, citing NYSE Euronext Chief Executive Duncan Niederauer. We will be looking at that option when the regulator permits it,” Niederauer said in the report Thursday . LONDON (Thomson Financial) – Copper extended yesterday’s gains, taking the other metals up with it, as funds returned to the view that real assets like metals should hold their value better than equities in uncertain economic times. Last week, metals and other commodities fell sharply as funds liquidated long positions or bets on price rises in commodities, amid fears that the credit crunch will crimp metals demand long term. Elsewhere, nickel was up at 30,170 usd a tonne against 29,825 usd, zinc rose to 2,344 usd against 2,330 usd, lead edged up to 2,820 usd against 2,800 usd while aluminium climbed to 2,970 usd against 2,945 usd. Oil prices had one of their sharpest falls ever last week, and other markets seem to be teetering. Oil, copper, iron ore and foodstuffs have risen to record prices in the last few months. Bulls argue that demand from rapidly developing countries like China and India justifies the high prices.
